You may have a ‘work from the luxury of your own home’ business, and you may have discovered that leadership is part of your work.  You may have only started your business to be home with your children.  If you’re thinking, “This is not what I signed up for!”, consider that leadership in some form is part of most businesses, organizations, corporations, home-based businesses, associations, meetings and even families.

Don’t let all the chatter these days about leadership stress you out. Be yourself, be open, be kind and continue to learn.  There are many definitions of leadership, but one that I especially like for the purposes of this article is this:

Mirriam Webster

: the act or an instance of leading
  • leadership molds individuals into a team
  • —Harold Koontz & Cyril O’Donnell
I also liked one definition that said that a good leader,  “Creates an inspiring vision of the future.”  You are probably already doing these things in some way in your day to day activities.
Leadership on Pocket Watch Face.
Do you have a home business where there is a need to stay in touch with your customers to educate them on the products they are using?
Do you teach people in your organization how to give presentations?
Do you have kids that each have different needs, but also need to be taught to work within the family arrangement?
See, you’re already doing it.   Here are three tips to help you continue to lead, teach and inspire:
1.  Accept feedback.  Everybody is different in their likes, dislikes, learning styles, ability to communicate clearly,  etc.  Ask  for feedback from your team, customers, family.  Then, when they offer it, accept it with a smile and where you can, genuinely put it to use.  This can inspire confidence in them that they are valued and that in the future they can feel comfortable giving their feedback.
2.  Listen.  When people sense you are really listening, they know you care about them. Listen to understand, not respond.
3.  Inspire cooperation. No one is an island, and in most groups of people, there is a need for cooperation among them.  As an illustration, in the example above, you and your customers need cooperation for you to teach them the full benefit of what they are purchasing and using. You need to show, talk and educate; they need to listen and be attentive to learn, and then do what they learn, to appreciate the full value of the product.
These are just a few aspects of leadership. There are many more.  I would love to show you more about leadership and the company I work with.

Put the System to Work

Our digestive system is designed to work best when it is fed regularly. It still works some when we are not eating, but it works most when it is receiving and digesting (and getting rid of ;) ) food.

It’s similar with a home based business model. Many home based business models are designed to work when they are worked. In other words, when you put in the work, the system works for you. Many home based businesses have certain steps to take to achieve success, and when you follow them regularly, you will succeed. If yours doesn’t, find one that does.

For our digestive system to work well, we need to put good, wholesome, nutritious food into it. When we skip meals, eat junk, then overeat when we do eat, it wreaks havoc on our digestive system. Likewise, if you give half-hearted attention to your home business arrangement, it will suffer. It will not produce what you expect from it.

The work has already been done for you. Our digestive system has already been designed. Follow the steps and you will succeed. If you are looking for a do-able ‘work from the luxury of your own home business’, I would be happy to show you what works for me. Trust the system.

Occupational Wellness

By Martha Robards

Occupational wellness, one of the eight aspects of wellness, is about enjoying your occupational endeavors and feeling like you are making a difference and contributing.

Helping Each Other 1-30-18

Sometimes, however, occupational endeavors seem to be more about making a living and putting food on the table. There are times when enjoying our jobs and doing it just to have an income seem to collide.

If you don’t enjoy your current job, there are things you can do to help. You can try to find something that better suits you. To do that you have to know what suits you. You do have to take some time to get to know yourself and what you do and do not prefer. HINT: It takes time. Do what you can now, do the best you can where you are, be consistent and don’t give up. Your time will come.

Check Your Attitude

Sometimes simply changing our attitude about our own circumstances and position in our current jobs makes a big difference. Here are some tips to help you come up with ideas to make your current job more enjoyable:

  1. Get motivated to face the day to day. Do some positive self-talk. It’s okay.
  2. Keep your work in perspective. Do the best you can in your current situation, keeping the bigger picture in mind.
  3. Remember you are more than your work. You are not your job and your job is not you. It’s what you do.

Make a Change

If you are looking for a different occupational opportunity, take your time, do your research and stay employed while you do that. Side hustles (aka moonlighting) are as popular now as ever.

When you look for something to earn extra money, keep in mind that it will take time, energy and organization to pull this off. You can do it, but have a plan. Do research to fully understand what is involved. Think about:

  1. How much time will be involved?
  2. What is the learning curve?
  3. What kind of training does it provide?
  4. Is it a solid company?
  5. Will you work from home?

Mainly, be persistent and consistent in your efforts. Don’t let things easily discourage you. There are aspects about every job, every side hustle – every day life, that are not necessarily fun. Get through it with a smile.

I finally found one that’s worked for me for awhile. I love it.
